The Hayward Police Department is praising the quick actions of an officer who saved a baby from choking. The heroic moment was caught on video.

Officer Gonzalez was beginning his shift on Feb. 5 when a family flagged him down. He was told that their 11-month-old baby girl was possibly choking.

“Without hesitation, Officer Gonzalez immediately took action, performing first aid to help the baby,” Hayward police said.

After a short time of help, the baby spit up a small rubber band.

Hayward Fire assessed the baby after Gonzalez’s rescue.

Hayward PD said the officer’s “quick actions made all the difference, turning a potential tragedy into a moment of relief and gratitude for this family.”
