CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — A southern Arizona nonprofit teamed up with East Valley police to make a difference in a child’s life one book at a time.

Southern Arizona Book Heroes, a Tucson organization that helps stock first responder vehicles with new children’s books, coloring books and plushies, donated over 10 duffels full of books to Chandler Police.

Chandler PD shared in a Facebook post that they were “honored to receive this generous donation.”

Jennifer Dillon, the founder of Southern Arizona Book Heroes, was taken away from her family when she was only 13 years old because of abuse.

Dillon was put into an emergency shelter and lost herself in reading books. Chandler PD shared in their social media post that books were her lifeline during a difficult time.

On the nonprofit’s website, Dillon shared it is her hope that the organization will help children through books, like they helped her get through her own traumatic experience.
