A Student’s Loss Before the Holidays
Put yourself in Priscilla Delgado's shoes. A junior at Jourdanton High School, she’s like many 17-year-olds, dedicated to school, sports, and music.
"Music honestly helps me concentrate more," she explained. "And like, if I'm doing schoolwork or just working out, or I just, like, want to listen to something, I just put in my AirPods."
But just before Christmas break, the AirPods she had worked hard to buy went missing.
"I was actually really scared," she recalled. "I went through my bed, I cleaned out my whole room, I looked through all my backpacks and my sports backpacks, and I still couldn't find it. And I was really scared to tell my mom."
Her concern was understandable. The first time she lost a pair, her mom had paid hundreds of dollars to replace them. This time, Priscilla had earned the money herself over the summer.
The Police Report and a Glimmer of Hope
"We had just come back from visiting family in Lubbock when she said, ‘Mom, my AirPods are pinging,’ and she told me the location," said her mother, Desirae Gonzales. "And my thing is, like, I called my husband. I was like, ‘Do we wait till the school officer comes? What should we do?’ He’s like, ‘Well, honey, it’s over 300 bucks. You need to make a police report.’"
They filed a report with the Jourdanton Police Department, sharing the location data. Officer Nicki Quintero stepped up to help.
"I was praying in the car because we had waited at the PD, and I was praying that she could bring the AirPods back to me," Priscilla said, recalling the anxious wait.
The location led them to a house. "It’s an older man, and he told her that, you know, he didn’t have any kids in school, and that, you know, she was more than welcome to look around," Desirae said.
But the search didn’t result in recovery.
"I was just mad," Priscilla admitted. "I was mainly mad at myself for not having that responsibility to... to take care of the AirPods."
"She came back, and she’s like, unfortunately, you know, she did her protocol, what she needed to do, and the AirPods were nowhere to be found," Desirae said.
An Officer’s Quiet Holiday Surprise
What Officer Quintero did next went far beyond protocol. Just after Christmas, she surprised Priscilla with a brand-new pair of AirPods, purchased with her own money.
Photos show Priscilla’s joy as she opened the unexpected gift, capturing a moment of pure gratitude.
"Here we are at Jourdanton Police Department," Fox San Antonio's Ryan Wolf said, preparing to surprise Officer Quintero as part of the station’s Cash for Kindness segment.
Wolf approached the officer, who thought she was attending a work meeting.
"We’re here because there’s a family in the community who thinks the world of you," Wolf explained as Priscilla and her mother walked in.
"It meant a lot to me," Priscilla told the officer. "Because you do have kids of your own, and being the daughter of law enforcement, like, I know y’all, like, don’t make it like what y’all deserve. And I’m really appreciative for what you did."
Quintero’s humility remained evident.
"Always help people," she shared. "Be there for them—with or without a badge."
Kindness Comes Full Circle
Then came a surprise for Officer Quintero herself: $500 in cash from the Cash for Kindness program to thank her for her generosity and heart.
"Like I said, I have kids, so, you know, I don’t know... like, this never happens to me," she said.
Officer Quintero didn’t just close a case. She opened a door to trust, respect, and empathy between the community and law enforcement, showing that policing is as much about people as it is about procedure.
Why Stories Like This Matter
Not every badge moment is about high-profile arrests or breaking news. Sometimes, it’s about a quiet act that restores someone’s faith, especially a young person learning responsibility and resilience.
Officer Quintero’s story is a reminder of what acts of kindness by law enforcement look like: simple, selfless, and sincere.
