The South San Francisco Police Department took part in a major human trafficking rescue and recovery operation. Local officers saved five survivors during the targeted safety sweep. This local effort was part of a massive network of law enforcement collaboration across the country. The successful mission brought vital help to vulnerable individuals in the community.

Incident Overview

The local operation took place on April 23, 2026. Officers focused on an undisclosed location in South San Francisco. The Human Exploitation Apprehension Team led the local sting. This specialized unit is also known as the H.E.A.T. team. Officers safely recovered five human trafficking survivors during the daytime operation. The team also detained one suspected trafficker at the scene. Authorities released the suspect later pending further investigation.

Regional Teams Work Together

The local police department did not work alone. The team partnered with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office Human Trafficking Unit. Officers from the Daly City Police Department and the San Mateo Police Department assisted. The Brisbane Police Department and the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center also joined. An advocacy group named Rape Trauma Services provided immediate resources to the survivors. This group ensured every recovered person received proper care.

The Massive National Impact

The local sweep was part of a larger mission called Operation Coast to Coast. The Human Trafficking Training Center organized this nationwide initiative. More than 250 law enforcement agencies across 30 states took part. The massive operation became one of the largest anti-trafficking events in United States history. Officers across the country identified 129 victims, including 11 minors. The entire national effort resulted in the arrest of 139 traffickers and sex buyers. Law enforcement teams also seized more than $500,000 in criminal assets. Teams also executed over 100 search warrants during the multi-state event.
