Bodycam Captures Moment Officer Pulls 79-Year-Old from Burning Home

Chaska, Minnesota - March 25, 2025
A 79-year-old woman is safe today thanks to the fast and fearless actions of Chaska Police Sergeant Kyle Hance, whose police emergency response saved her from a dangerous early morning fire. The incident, caught on his police bodycam, has drawn praise across the Chaska police department and the local community.

The call came in just before 5:30 a.m. on Monday morning. As his shift was winding down, Sergeant Hance responded to a house fire in the Brandenale neighborhood where a woman was believed to be trapped inside.

Seconds to React, No Time to Hesitate

Neighbor Natasha Adams had already dialed 911. “Just started smelling a really heavy waxy smell, like a hundred candles on fire,” she said. The flames had begun to rise under the home where her mother-in-law, Joyce Maxine Adams, was inside. Adams ran outside with a fire extinguisher in her pajamas.

By the time Chaska police arrived, the fire was quickly spreading, and time was running out.

“Joyce, where are you?” Hance is heard calling out as he entered the smoke-filled home.
“Okay Joyce, let's go outside, okay? Keep walking, Joyce.”

Heroism in Action

Within five minutes of the initial radio call, Hance had located the woman and guided her out of the burning home. Despite the danger, he remained calm and focused throughout the house fire rescue.

“Joyce was actually surprisingly calm given the situation,” he later shared.

The community, touched by both the rescue and the footage, has called the moment a reminder of what brave police officers do each day. “It just feels really good to help people, so I’m glad we could be there for her,” Hance said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the family shared that Joyce is doing well.
