Two officers with the London Police Department in Madison County, Ohio, rescued a missing 5-year-old boy from a creek in cold weather.
In a Facebook post, London police said two officers were on patrol when one of them saw a young boy walking alone on the sidewalk at about 6:12 p.m. Tuesday. The officers turned around to check on the child, but couldn't find him.
As the officers searched the area on foot, a 911 caller reported a missing 5-year-old boy with autism.
The officers saw the boy floating on his back in a creek under West Center Street in north London, body camera footage provided by London police shows. One officer, identified by the department as Officer Dylan Fout, waded into the 3-foot-deep creek and pulled the boy from the water.
After carrying the boy to dry land, Fout asked for blankets to be brought from the cruiser.
London police said the boy was conscious and began vomiting shortly after Fout pulled him from the water. Medics transported him to Madison Health hospital, where he was treated and released.
"We would like to recognize Ofc. Fout’s excellent patrol observations and quick actions in saving the child from imminent danger," the department wrote on Facebook.
