Grateful for the response of the Annapolis Police
I am the director of Serenity Sistas, a premiere non-profit recovery housing organization in Annapolis. Providing affordable, alcohol and illicit drug free, safe housing to those who have been impacted by substance misuse and are seeking to rebuild their lives.
We work hard to assist our participants reach their goals and dreams while reintegrating them into their family and society as a productive and positive example of what “recovery” looks like. Even though we work hard daily to help, sometimes working hard is not quite enough.
Recently our organization lost a member of our men’s home – in the home. It was devastating to the young man’s family and to his housemates, but mostly sad for him that he made a choice that had unintended consequences.
Overall, one of the darkest days for this organization. I have been told that when you see the light at the end of the tunnel it means the darkness is behind you.
Two weeks ago, the light at the other end of the tunnel came in the form of law enforcement. I am writing to applaud the officers who responded to this incident merely because they heard the address come over the radio and knew the call was coming from a recovery home.
Those officers were helpful, kind and caring. They treated the rest of the members of the home with dignity and respect and walked us through the process and next steps. Thank you, Annapolis Police Department, for having such amazing officers to uphold your creed “Honor, Respect, Integrity, Service.”
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you and am grateful for your service.
